Karen Goins

Principal

Greetings Raider Family,

My name is Karen Goins, and I am honored to serve as the new principal of  East Burke Middle School.  I have had the opportunity to serve Burke County Public Schools in many capacities. I began my career with Burke County Public Schools serving proudly as a school bus driver.  Along the way, I have worked as a school data manager as well as teacher assistant. It was during this time that I completed my teaching degree.

My classroom experience includes teaching students in first, fourth, and fifth grades, and I have also served as Media Specialist at Drexel Elementary School.  I have had the opportunity to serve as Assistant Principal at Glen Alpine Elementary School, where I also had the opportunity to fulfill internships at Heritage Middle School, Mull Elementary, Salem Elementary, and WA Young Elementary School. Most recently, I served as the Principal of Mull Elementary School.

Educationally, I hold a Bachelor's Degree in K-6 Education from Mars Hill College, a Masters Degree in Instructional Media from Wilkes University. Similarly, I hold professional licenses in Academically and Intellectually Gifted Education from Western Carolina University and a School Administration license from Appalachian State University.

I am proud to say that I maintain an open door policy and that my goal for East Burke Middle School is to continue building relationships with students, families, and the community. My pledge to the East Burke Middle community is to lead and support our teachers and staff so they too can continue to lead and inspire our students and families!  I can say without hesitation that our focus here at East Burke Middle School will continue to be on the academic success of all students.

The continued success of our students depends on strong academics, no doubt, but it also depends on successful communication. I invite each of you to let us know what we are doing well, what we need to do more of, and what we need to improve on.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with your questions or concerns.

Thank you for your support of East Burke Middle School!

Sincerely,

Karen Goins
