School Leadership

Welcome to East Burke Middle School, Home of the Raiders! We are a rural school serving 710 students in grades 6th - 8th. Our mission is to provide a safe, positive and nurturing environment in which our faculty and staff will work cohesively to educate our students and prepare them to meet academic, personal, and future challenges. We will prepare our students through the use of 21st century skills such as; collaboration, global awareness, and the integration of technology. Our students will emerge as critical thinkers, ready to realize their potential to be outstanding and productive citizens in the community.

The success of our students is the shared responsibility of the home, school, and community. East Burke is fortunate to have a motivated and involved PTO, as well as many strong partnerships within the local business community. We offer a variety of activities outside of the instructional day for our students. Students may participate in programs within the school; such as athletics, Student Council, GEMS, Math Counts, Robotics and others. As a staff, we will strive to build positive relationships, while supporting academic and social growth for each child at EBMS.

Finally, I would like to tell you a little about me. I am originally from a small town, Shepherd, Michigan. I graduated from Central Michigan University in May of 2008 with a bachelor's degree in education. My wife and I moved to Hickory, North Carolina in July of 2008. I taught middle school PE and health at Newton-Conover Middle School for seven years. While at NCMS, I also served as the head football and wrestling coach, as well as the athletic director. After teaching for several years, I went to Gardner-Webb University where I earned a Masters in Executive Leadership.
In July of 2015, I had the opportunity to serve as assistant principal at East Burke Middle School as an assistant principal for the 2015-2016 academic year. I then served as assistant principal at Drexel Elementary for the 2016-2017 academic year. In May of 2016, I had the opportunity to serve as Principal of Drexel Elementary, and did so for the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 academic year. I am excited to back in Raider County and serving as the principal of East Burke Middle School. I reside in Newton, NC with my wife Christina and son Micah. We enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, and spending time outdoors.

As principal of East Burke Middle School, I am committed to seeing every student succeed. I believe that all students can achieve and I work to make that happen at East Burke. We have a place for every student here and we work to make East Burke Middle School a safe and comfortable environment for everyone.
